 Rosacea treatment

What is Rosacea? What is acne Rosacea? Are both conditions related?

Rosacea is a skin condition that presents little red or purple vessels as well as redness on the surface of the skin. Patients sffering from rosacea often mention the fact that their skin is hypersensitive and seems constantly irritated.

Patients suffering from acne rosacea also present skin redness and inflammation especially on the cheeks, the nose, and also sometimes the forehead and the chin. Many patients suffering acne rosacea also suffer from rosacea. Although, patients with acne rosacea also present little red pimples on their skin. With time, the skin can thicken, the pores dialate and sometimes the nose can become bigger (rhinophyma). Several patients are unfortunately ashamed of their acne rosacea, fearing their condition will mislead people into into thinking they are alcoholic.

What are the causes or the risk factors of acne rosacea?

1. Family history
2. Light skinned patients
3. Repeated and unprotected sun exposure

Which treatments are available?

To treat pimples and inflammation caused by rosacea, creams cn be perscribed to control the apparition of pimples and skin rashes. For more severe cases, that cannot be controlled with medical creams, some antibiotics acting as anti-inflammatory may be taken orally. For dilates skin vessels, only laser treatments can eliminate them.

How does V-Beam laser work in the treating of rosacea and acne rosacea?

A yellow or fractional laser produces light like energy that is absorbed by the little blood vessels. This energy closes the dilated and blocked blood vessels. Progressively, the undesired blood vessels dissapear and the patients notice an improvement to the tone of their skin as well as more comfort and less daily inflammation.

How is the procedure done?

3 to 5 treatments are usually required, depending on the severity of their condition. Each treatment is done within 15 to 20 minutes. During the treatment, the patients wear goggles to protect their eyes. No medication or anaesthetic cream is needed prior to the treatment. The patient will only feel a pinch or heat sensation on treated areas.

After each treatment, the skin remains red for 24 to 48 hour. The patients can enjoy their social or professinal activities without discomfort. Although, note that applying a sun screen is very important for every patient suffering rosacea.
