  Skin discoloration treatment

IPL Laser

Sun damaged skin can be effectively treated throug an innovative new tratment called IPL photorejuvenation. It uses light in a good way to repair and revive your skin in an effective, non-invasive, and proven way. With IPL there's no peeling, scabbing or redness, And it's so fast that you could even do it over your lunch hour.

How it Works

IPL photorejuvenation reduces and eliminates the unsightly sun damage visible on your skin. Most of us recognizee this as freckles, fine lines and the larger brown age or liver spots. Whether on your face, hands, neck, chest or back, this treatment can make you look like you've turned back time. With an average of five treatments spread out at three week intervals, IPL photorejuvenation stimulates the production of collagen. As the new collagen forms, fine lines and wrinkles are decreased. IPL technology improves both the superficial and depper skin layers and rejuvenates the skin while at the same time delivering beneficial thermal energy to deep tissue. After a series of treatments, you can see a significant reduction of unwanted pigmentation and the appearance of a smoother, revitalized skin.

IPL photo rejuvenation uses a technoogy called Intense Pulsed Light (IPL). At first glance, it is similar to a conventional laser, which emits a fixed wavelength of light, but IPL technology is far different than laser technology. Instead, IPL devices produce a broad spectrum of light in a range of wavelengths. These wavelengths are customized to suit your skin type and it's needs by a trained IPL physician or technician.

Before treatment: Using the spectrum of IPL appropriate to the clinical objective, light energy is transformed to heat energy.

During treatment: The chromopore in the target tissue - such as hemeglobin or pigment responds to the heat energy

After treatment: The target is fragmented and absorbed without damage to the surrounding tissue. The skin surfce is left smooth and rejuvenated.

IPL is a fast, convenient and virtually painless solution for treating sun damage and more, which is what so many people are looking for in a treatment. Depending on the area treated, IPL can take minutes and can easily be done over your lunch hour, and no one will notice any telltale signs that you might have had something done. Compared to many other treatments, IPL photorejuvenation is practically painless. A cool gel is applied to the surface of your skin. then the hand-controlled device is moved across the treatment area. Most people say the sensation is similar to the snap of a rubber band; however, a topical anesthetic can be applied to numb the skin and reduce the minimal discomfort. Afterwards, the treated lesion will flake off and dissapear in a matter of days.

By dividing the full program into several treatments, the procedure provides gradual improvement with very low risk, and preserves the wonderful "no downtime" feature that people appreciate so much.

Here, a trained physician performs IPL photorejuvenation on a patient. The procedure usually requires four to six treatments, about three weeks apart in order for results to be the most dramatic. An individual treatment takes about 15 minutes and is virtually pain-free. You can resume your everyday activities immediately after the treatment.

Results

The true test of whether a treatment is effective is in the results. IPL photorejuvenation produces dramatic results in patients with sun damaged skin.

Peels

Chemical peels can help restore sun damaged, wrinkled, blemished, acne scarred or blotchy skin to its original youthful appearance, acheiving a smoother, more even tone and texture. Your skin will look younger, tighter and fresher than before. Still a chemical peel cannot remove all facial flaws. Deeper lines, wrinkles and other flaws may require additional treatments or techniques.

There are three basic peels that penetrate to different levels and, therfore, produce different results. What they all have in common is the application of a chemical solution to remove the damaged outer layers of skin, which allows newer layers to replace the old ones. The deeper a peel penetrates, the more dramatic the results are, but a note of caution, depper peels involve a more lengthly recovery period. Your doctor may choose one of three types of the chemical peels, or tailor the treatment to the needs of your skin.

The chemicals normally used are Alpha Hydroxy acids or Trichloracetic acid (TCA) for more superficial lines and blemishes, or Phenol, for deeper wrinkles, flaws or discolorations. These peels can be used not only on the face, but also on the neck, chest, back, arms, or hands - anywhere you wish to rejuvenate or improve your skin. Regardless, the down time can be lengthly, especially for the deep peels, so be prepared to take time off for recovery.

Superficial Peels

Sometimes called lunch hour peels, these superficial or light peels are the mildest of all the types. Using Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs). These peels include glycolic, lactic, and fruit acid peels. They burn off only the outer layers of skin to smooth out it's texture/ Some people find that it also reduces fine lines and wrinkles. AHA peels may also be used to improve the texture of sun damaged skin and balance out skin pigmentation.

AHA peels are relatively fast and simple and are often performed in the doctor's office. No sedation or anaesthesia is required, since the patient only experiences a slight stinging when the solution is applied. The treatment usually takes about 10 to 15 minutes, but the doctor may vary the concentration of the chemical solution or the length of time of the treatment. After the procedure, no ointments or salves will be necessary to cover the treated are. Monthly or weekly repetition is common to achieve desired results.

Medium Peels

Medium depth peels are for treating skin with moderate sun damage, weatherd skin, surface wrinkles, and/or uneven tone or pigment abnormalities typically use a Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) solution. Full-face TCA peels take approximately 15 minutes and are usually performed in the doctor's office or in a surgery centre as an outpatient procedure.

TCA peels often do not require anesthesia because the solution itself has a numbing effect on the skin. These peels sometimes require two or more treatments, spaced out over weeks or months, to achieve best results.

Deep Peels

The strongest chemical peel uses Phenol acid to produce a deep peel effect for individuals suffering a larger amount of skin damage and deep wrinkles. The reslts of deep chemical peels can be even more striking than that of dermabrasion or laser resurfacing. These peels should be used with caution because they can cause permanent lightening of the skin, which can be a telltale sign that you have had this treatment. For this reason, it's recommended that people with very dark skin tones not ndergo Phenol peels. People who are heavily freckled also should not have a phenol peel because of the clear demarcaton line it leaves between treated and untreated skin.

Full-face Phenol peels take about an hour or two but small area Phenol peels (such as on the upper lip) may take about 10 to 15 minutes. Phenol peels are generally oerormed in the doctor's office or in a surgery centre as an outpatient procedure with anesthesia.

A full-face, deep chemical peel requires a sedative prior to the treatment and an analgesic given intravenously during the procedure. You'll also be electronically monitored during this treatment. After completing the treatment, the doctor may apply petroleum jelly or a waterproof dressing tape to the treated area. This covering will be left on for a day or two. Unlike AHA and TCA peels, Phenol peels are only used once, and create dynamic results.

After a phenol deep peel you will probably have around seven to ten days of swelling, which might interfere with your ability to open your eyes, After that you'll be left with a red, sunburned look for two or three months.
