What is Power Plate?
The Power Plate is a sophisticated fitness device that provides an intense workout thanks to a unique advanced vibration technology – whereby the body receives vibrations that force the muscles and joints to flex.
History of Power Plate
Similar in appearance to a high-tech scale, the Power plate was first invented by Russian scientist Vladimir Nazarov to train Russian cosmonauts and help them regain muscle mass and bone density after long periods in space without gravity. Guus van de meer, Olympic trainer for the Netherlands then adapted this technology in 1999 to help train his athletes and improve their performance.
Since then, the Power Plate has become available to the general public. It has been widely used by sports teams, fitness/training centers, rehab/medical facilities and individuals. The Power Plate is now distributed in over 24 countries including Canada, the United States, Italy, Spain, France, The United Kingdom, Japan, China, and Korea.
Advanced Vibration Technology
Power Plate’s advanced vibration technology stimulates muscles and joints by taking advantage of the body’s innate reflexive response to disruptions in stability. The Power Plate’s platform vibrations transfer energy to the body. This mechanical stimulus produces a stretch reflex, which depending on the frequency, results in rapid and intense muscle contractions 30-50times per second.
Vibration training on the Power Plate substantially improves muscle strength and performance, flexibility and range of motion. It is also proven to reduce cellulite, stimulate blood circulation, improve bone density, accelerate the recovery and regeneration of damaged tissue and ultimately, enhance the general wellness and quality of life for individuals.
Scientific Research
The Power Plate’s sophisticated advanced vibration technology is backed by over forty years of research, and the Power Plate has been subject of on-going scientific studies in the United States and Europe for over a decade, and is one of the most unique fitness and rehabilitation devices on the market today.
Who should use the Power Plate?
The Power Plate’s vibration technology is so gentle on muscles and joints that anyone can use it. Therefore, Power Plate is ideal for professional athletes looking to improve their performance, senior citizens looking for gentle exercise, professionals with little time to train, women eager to reduce cellulite and improve body shape, or anyone looking to live a healthier life.
The Power Plate can even be used for medical rehabilitation, therefore enabling people with debilitating conditions such as osteoporosis, arthritis, multiple sclerosis, or Parkinson’s disease to train while respecting their own physical limitations.
Star Power
Nicknamed the “miracle machine”, the Power Plate has become the darling of Hollywood A-listers and celebrities such as Madonna, Brad Pitt, Claudia Schiffer, Donatella Versace and Natalie Imbruglia.
Recommended Training Regimen
Various studies have shown that only 15 minutes suffice to train on the Power Plate. For best results, two sessions of 20 minutes are recommended per week. When training twice a week, one session on Power Plate is equivalent to up to a full hour workout of conventional training with weights.
Each session is comprised of various exercises including stretching and squats; at MédIME a certified coach supervises all training sessions.
Availability
MédIME is the first and only venue in Québec to offer the Power Plate to its clients.
Cost
The first session on Power Plate (which includes an evaluation) costs 65$. Then, clients can pay for a program including 10 sessions at $500 ($50 per session).
